Twitter Finally Chooses Monetization System
The long awaited twitter advertising system has finally landed. I have blogged about it a couple of times, so I thought I better share the twitter love here too. The new Twitter “Promoted Tweets” system is not really what most of us expected. It really was kind of a let down in many ways. The new monetization system from Twitter will give big name advertisers yet another way to get their messages to consumers.
The big move in online advertising has been pushing network marketers, internet promoters and advertising professionals of all kinds to social networks for some time. The big advantage about these social sites for advertisers is that they do not have to do any demographic work. These websites are build around user interest, age and location….Yes we have already been sucked into the huge marketing test group by the time we send our first tweet. Facebook is the same, don’t be confused these guys share everything they can with those who advertise here as well.
So here is an excerpt from one of my rants on the new promoted tweet system to give you some food for thought on the new twitter monetization model.
Promoted Tweets – On Hubpages

Well, if you follow social media and of course Twitter, you already know that the investors and corporate heads have been trying to figure out the right way to monetize their site. The promoted tweets system that twitter will be implementing is what they have decided on and we will be seeing them all to soon if you ask me. I am not so excited to see another ad on another site, but when you think about the millions of dollars that has been pumped into the twitter project since day one by private investors, I am sure they are happy to see a final decision.
The way that this will work is that the ads or promoted tweets will show in search results on twitter and most likely on google too. So now that Twitter tweets show in google, this may be a new way for both marketers and twitter to profit from this web giant. The system will be live very soon so we can see what it is going to be like pretty quick.
My question is, Who actually searches twitter? I mean I have searched for friends, but I never search though messages…ever. So, I am not so sure that this is the best way for twitter to go, but I am sure that with all the money and R&D that has went into this monetization choice by twitter, that there must be something more to it than I am seeing. Maybe just the sheer volume may be enough to make this effective. It is the 12 most visited site on the planet right now.
If you want to hear what the guys at Twitter are saying about the Promoted Tweets ad system, check out this post on the official Twitter blog: Promoted Tweets – Official Twitter Word. Once your done reading this article, ask yourself why they couldn’t say it in less than 140 characters…lol
Advertisers and Spam On Twitter Promoted Tweets
Promoted Tweets Demo/Example
Here is what the promoted tweet may look like in the search results of Twitter.
Well of course only time will tell, but it will be interesting to see if Twitter is setting themselves up to compete with the big boys when it comes to advertising online. But, then again there is always the chance that they are going to fall flat on their face. So I will keep this hub updated as the promoted tweets system goes live and see what comes of it.
So who is going to be using this system? Well to start off blue chip firms such as Sony Pictures, Starbucks, Best Buy, Red Bull, and Virgin America will be some of the first companies to get to beta test the new advertising efforts on Twitter. The big concern is spam. How many viagra commercials are we going to see here and how will Twitter decide to filter the advertisers who use the promoted tweets system?
There is a lot to be seen with this new twitter monetization plan before we know how effective it really will be for advertisers and how annoying it will be to users. The one thing we do know is the financial investors of twitter are finally getting a chance at seeing a return on their multi-million dollar investment.
